North Carolina or Tennessee - Coolest Temperatures??

Which of these states in the Smoky Mountains have the coolest temperatures in the summer and where? Also what campgrounds do you recommend in these areas?

We are looking for some cool spots for the hot summer months in this area and we may eventually look in the Rockies also. I am working on a spring trim in the Smokies to research some campground this spring.

Mount Pisgah area is great, but I'm not sure your rig will fit. Lake Powhatan is at least shaded sites.

Following thread - we love that area and are always looking for more info.

Crossville TN is "up on the plateau" between Knoxville and Nashville on I40. We stayed there during Aug-Sep two years ago and temps were very moderate. We experienced the occasional day where temps made it into the low 90s, but for the most part they averaged low to mid 80s. The park we stayed in was Deer Run. Good luck on your trip.

Elevation means a lot. I have "studied" the temps in WNC & TNN over the past couple of summers while I sweltered in New England and Michigan. For the past 20+ yrs vacationed in Asheville area - CG is now closed but it was on Cedar Mountain - 3300'. Can get in the 90's.

Last summer spent time in Beech Mountain, Banner Elk & Boone areas - nice and cool - between 5,000' and 3,500'.

On our way home from touring the Maritimes, entered NH with 95-100 degrees and it was 95-100 degrees all the way to Florida - except Boone area - it was low-mid 80's and Banner Elk/Beech Mtn low 80's.

Planning on spending time in that area next summer.

Here's where you can find a monthly weather history. This one is for Crossville, Tennessee. You will have humidity which can make it feel hotter:

Climate Crossville - Tennessee and Weather averages Crossville

This is the area I am concentrating on now. Can you recommend any resorts for a 34' MH with full hookups that won't break the bank?

Are there any areas in Virginia that have cool summers. I am looking for locations that is closer than Colorado for July or August.

I liked the temperatures in the Boone, NC area, but I did not find any CG's that I would want to stay a month or more at.

Keep in mind that there's a BIG difference in places with humidity (the SE) and those with very little (Colorado). In the SE you will still have high 80's - low 90's but with humidity which will make it seem hotter. Just a thought...you may not feel as cool as you're expecting.

I am looking at a Down By The River Campground in Pineola, NC.

The temperatures this past July/August was 10+ degrees cooler in the daytime and 15+ degrees cooler at night than where I am at.
