North Dakota
Am planning a visit around mid August to ND leaving from Northern Minnesota. Would like to stay and do things in North/Central ND. Am having a tough time finding things to do for about a week with one base camp. Any help on things to do and places to camp with FHU would be helpful.

We don't know your interests but sometimes if you Google 'Things to do in North Dakota' a lot of ideas come up. Here are some:
https://www.ndtourism.com/best-place...s-north-dakota
You might have to move another time to cut down on daily driving depending on your choices.
Have a good trip!

If you happen to get as far west as Medora, consider a stop at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The Park is currently open but with limited services so, if you think you may like to visit, best to check the National Park Service website as your travel dates get closer. Both the North and South Units have gorgeous scenery and interesting features and, in my humble opinion, both are well worth a visit.
Travel safely,
Mary

That was our problem also, we had reservations at Ft. Abraham Lincoln. No full service but great views and things to do for several days. From there we planned to go north and west and follow the north side of Lake Sakakawea is Lewis and Clark SP. It has full service sites.
At Ft Abraham Lincoln the first commander of the enlarged fort was Custer, he served there until the battle of the Little Big Horn. In addition is the site of an early Indian village. North of Bismark is the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. We had planned to spend a week going from the Bismark area to Theodore Roosevelt NP, all on hold for two years because of commitments.

X 2 on Theodore Roosevelt National Park, both the south and north sectors. We stayed at a nice campground/RV Park with FHU in Medora which is very convenient to the park. If you go and walk trails, be aware at all times of your surroundings. Bison can appear rather suddenly and for the next couple of months they will be in the breeding season which means the bulls are aggressive and territorial. A beautiful wild natural area well worth the trip.

A visit to the International Peace Garden is an option. https://peacegarden.com/
Remember your passport.

Good to know! When we are finally able to visit the area we will probably not be during summer.

SR 32 south out of Valley City, ND is a designated scenic route for good reason. This is a beautiful drive with several state historic sites along the approximate 40 mile one way to Lisbon, ND.

I do not plan on going as far west as Medora, it looks however like another trip will have to be planned for that area. Minot will be as far west as I plan on going this trip.

I think they require passports because the Peace Garden is on the border with most of it in Canada. From their website it seems Americans are allowed to visit both sides, but Canadians are not.
If I'm incorrect I am sure there are posters who will happily correct me.
