Oceanfront camping destinations
Hi, my wife and I are trying to plan a trip to to an Oceanside camping destination with full hookup for our 35’ class A. Doing some internet searches, we’ve found Huntington Island SC, Camp Gulf Holiday Travel Park in FL, Long Key State Park in FL and a few others. Trying to stick to something from South Carolina to Florida. Does anyone have any recent experience with a good place? Just really focused on beachfront camping. Camp Gulf Holiday Travel Park looked promising, however their website appears to be under construction and no answer when trying to call them, so…. Not sure if they are out of business now or what?? Thanks.

If you do state parks Gamble Rogers in Flagler Beach FL is great and very reasonable for electric and water hookup. Reserve online but the ocean fronts go quickly. You may already know the downside, high winds and sand.

Pricy, but if you want to wake up to the sunrise over the beach this is tough to beat. Not the nicest of beaches in my opinion, but not horrible. Another private campground is Bryn Mawr Resort in St Augustine. It’s a bit tight, but you walk out of your camper and go thru the gate to the beach. You can’t really see the beach well from the campground because of the dunes.
I’ve walked thru Gamble Rogers but have not stayed there yet. We have riverside reservations for next week and beachside for exactly 11 months from now.

We have stayed at Carrabelle Beach RV Resort many times. Beach is right across the road from park and visible. Plus is Beach is dog friendly which is rare in FL if that makes a difference.

Coral Sands in Ormond Beach is also very nice. So is Anastasia State Park in St.Augustine. Have stayed both beachside and riverside at Gamble Rogers and frankly prefer the riverside sites. Our rig took a beating for the 2 weeks we spent up and down the coast of florida in seaside parks. Had to throw our bicycles out as they were rusted pieces of junk. Woke up every morning and could not see out the windshield as it was covered with white salt spray. This is just my personal experience and I am sure others have had much different experiences......bob

Long Key state park in the keys has been closed to RV camping since 2017, due to hurricane damage, which hasn't been repaired yet. Curry Hammock and Bahia Honda state parks in the keys also have waterfront camping sites. John Pennekamp S.P. state park in the keys doesn't have any waterfront sites. Getting a reservation at any of those parks is another story.

Getting reservations at any Florida state park is easy… 11 months in advance! I remember when you had to call Bahia Honda and just keep hitting the redial button until you got someone to answer the phone to make a reservation.

Have you tried getting a site in the keys ? It is almost impossible getting a reservation for a state park in the keys, even going out 11 months. Before Reserve America and now the new and improved ? Florida state parks reservation website, it was more difficult to get a reservation, but you were more likely to get one. Now anyone anywhere can go on the website and reserve or try to reserve a site, without the hassle of calling a park.

Entirely doable. Just got reservations for Topsail and Gable Rogers (11 months out). In all honesty I’m not a fan of Key West. But there are lots of other great FL state parks we love. Not going to get into “the secrets” but the current process leads to lots of cancellations. Now that we have another camper we are booked for camping at least once a month (we are not retired yet so it’s mostly geared to weekends).
