What kind of temperatures can we expect in Santa Fe area in mid-October? We're thinking visiting for a week or so.

October weather in Santa Fe is generally outstanding.

Expect lows in the low 30's and daytime highs in the high 60's with lots of blue sky.

Mid-October will put you at the middle to end of the fall tree colors in the mountains. You should still be able to find some pretty spectacular stands of aspens with yellow leaves.

Inclement weather is, of course possible, with possible rain and even snow.

We lived in the Santa Fe area for 30+ years and always considered October as one of our favorite months.

GlennB is spot on.

You should come expecting very good weather and a wonderful, much quieter time of year to visit Santa Fe. However, as Glenn noted, the one caveat is that you can experience a burst of cold/snowy weather at any time. The good news is that it very rarely lasts very long and if it does snow, melts super quick.

Lastly, make sure you bring your checkbook. I promise, you're going to find LOTS of enticing things to buy during your visit!

Not sure which way you are heading to get to Santa Fe but the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is the first week or so (10 days) in October. If you have not been there it is not something to be missed. The weather is generally great that time of year with nearly every morning right around freezing and bright sunny 60's by the afternoon. This is, of course, except for the days that it's not. We have seen 80's for highs and cold snowy/sleety days but they are usually short lived and followed by more beautiful weather!
