If you find yourself in Newport, OR, that's the home of Rogue Brewing. You can sip some great suds surrounded by some gorgeous scenery in that town...

Newport:

Seafood and Wine Festival (and brews) - February 20th - 24th. At the marina just over the main bridge across the bay. Hosted by Rogue Ale Brewery.

Places to stay:

Pacific Shores RV Resort - north of town
Port of Newport - right next to the festival, but most likely already full during the festival
Whalers Rest (Thousand Trails Park) - south of town
South Beach State Park - south of town
Beverly Beach State Park - north of town

Newport offers free shuttles from many of the hotels and RV parks directly to the festival during festival hours. It runs from Pacific Shores RV Resort to the north, down to South Beach State park to the south.

North Coast:

Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach - Fort Stevens State Park
Lots of places to explore

Tillamook - Tillamook Cheese Factory -Tour, tastings, fun.

Lincoln City - Outlet Malls - Chinook Winds Casino

Depoe Bay - Huge wave action against the sea wall during high tides - right on the highway - just north of Newport

Central Coast:

Newport - see prevous post
Waldport, Yachats - great sightseeing - can be explored from Newport
Florence - Jesse Honeyman State Park

South Coast:

Reedsport, Winchester Bay - fishing, excellent marina towns.

North Bend, Coos Bay - Mill Casino RV Park

Bandon - Where it always seems to be 20 degrees warmer that elsewhere.

And don't forget the numerous lighthouses along the Oregon Coast (11 of them). Most are open to the public, and some have tours.

If traveling time not a problem, then go clear down the Washington side, and cross over the Meggler/Astoria bridge.....get a real idea just how wide the Columbia River is.......

Oregon Coast. Mid Feb.

JT Oregon, you nailed it!

OP, My preferred direction on the coast is north to south on 101. Ocean is on the right, pull out are on the right. Easy on and off. I lived in Astoria in 1954-56 (dad was in the Navy). In many respects, the town is still in the 50’s. Check out the Coast Guard Museum and the Bow Picker (across the street) for some really good fish and chips. Did a lot of clamming in Seaside. Don’t know the current restaurant lineup there, but almost certain that you will find some excellent clam chowder in Seaside or Cannon Beach.

BTW...congratulations on your retirement.

Netarts Bay Garden RV park west of Tillamook is a cool place to hang for a while and just a short drive to town. Very peaceful.
