Lynn, Wolf Creek Pass is o.k. for big rigs like yours. Many RVers of all kinds do it. Just take it slow, especially at the turns.

Go to Durango. Then ride the train up to Silverton for the day. Beautiful sceneryy through canyons and mountains.

There are 2 areas of construction that may have flag men and 15 minute or so delay and some single lane traffic (slow) but you don't want to start down fast anyway. I think part of it is posted 25 then 35. Looking at Allstays it shows the grade to be 6% for 8 miles then 5% for 2 miles. We pulled our 5r over it on the first of August with no issues. Gear down and get behind the truckers for awhile until you get a feel for the grade. Enjoy the views!

Thanks y'all. Yes, we do want to go on the train from Durango and then the bus back. Going to get that scheduled for Tuesday, September 6th.

I would do Durango, See Mesa Verde and take the train to Silverton. Do not be late for the train or they will leave you. I know!

Can you give me your opinion on where you stayed in Pagosa Springs?

We stayed at Pagosa Springs Riverside Campground. We liked it there. Right on the river, with fishing or tubing just steps away. The sites are level with gravel and grassy areas. The campground is older, but clean. I would return.
Unfortunately we did not get to continue our trip, my 96!year old mother had a fall and we had to return to the sweltering heat in Louisiana

We did that a few years ago. Works great! The train was used in the movie "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid". Train up and bus back was the right choice for us. The bus is faster than the train; the bus back gets you back to Durango in time to enjoy the evening there.

Take care,
Stu
