Park Amenities

Hello All,

I am new to the forum, and would like to say hello. I also would love to hear your feedback regarding the best and/or most convenient park amenities you have seen and experienced across the country.

I am really trying to identify which parks, besides the obvious beautiful landscape of the national parks, that keep calling you back for more because of the amenities they have added, if any at all.

What worked best for you and your families inside that park?

What have you never seen before that park that surprised you in a good way?

Anyway, glad to be a part of the community.

I think amenities are a bit like motorhomes. Everyone has differnt tastes.
This is our first stay anywhere in our Monaco. We now know we love pickleball. The person staying next to us loves horseshoes. There is no horseshoe pit here.
The other thing is that everything comes at a cost.
Many apps have the ability to select what you want. Good luck and happy camping.
We do say camping a bit tongue in cheek.

It is all about how much that you want to spend. If you want the pool, the concrete pad, the daily trash pickup, some guy in a golfcart to park you etc. etc., then be prepared to pay the $$$.

If you are content with power, maybe water, a table, a fire ring, a back in site, the basics or less, then you don't pay much.

There is a seat for every butt to sit on. Some want the plush sofa at the landbound yacht club. Others are happy with a park bench.

We're not very good for amenities. The main thing I like are the ones with a not over priced laundromat. We pack bathing suits each time we leave out and have yet to stick our toes in a swimming pool.

We prefer full service campsites - electric, water, sewer. Those are must haves in commercial parks. We will stay at state, COE, or local parks with electric, and water if just for 2-3 nights, a clean bath house if longer.

We might make use of more amenities on our December trip, we will be staying longer than 3 or 4 nights in a location. Normally we choose locations based on visiting interesting areas, not for the campground.

Welcome. I am happy with a level site and no neighbors. [emoji23]

We don't need amenities. We go to a place to explore the area and to enjoy the park itself..... public parks which are typically in the best surroundings of the area. They don't put a national or state park in a bad area.

We like to ride bikes so we prefer a location and area where we can hop on the bikes and just ride without having to haul them somewhere and park a car.

We like large sites. If its hot or very humid we like electric. Big plus somewhere to fill up with water and dump.

It seems to me that nobody is answering the OP's question. The title of thread is "Park Amenities" and the OP has asked for information about about specific parks and amenities. So far, half the responses say "I don't need no stinkin' amenities", and none of the answers have mentioned a specific park or parks.

In an effort to answer the question, our favorite park is Hearthside Grove in Petoskey, Michigan. We liked it so much that we bought a lot there. We like it because it is beautifully laid out and landscaped, has spacious sites, and is truly a luxury resort. Petoskey is in the middle of an exquisite area with many charming nearby towns, lakes, beaches, restaurants, shops, and a fine hospital if needed. All sorts of sports available in the area including boating, fishing, skiing, tennis, pickeball, swimming. Not everyone's cup of tea obviously, but it checks all the boxes for us.

No kids just us two.

Hot tubs and pools are what we look for, along with the weather to use them. South Florida.

Park supported meals and entertainment come in second. Not this year though.

To follow the lead of Mr. USA, the parks we return to frequently are usually based on their location to a place we're visiting.

We really like Skidaway SP in Georgia, just south of Savannah. We stay there because we attend a tennis tournament at The Landings, about a mile away.

Most of the lots are large but only a few are full service. It has well maintained bath houses and not overly priced laundry. It has a number of trails and ways to hike or ride bikes.

We stop frequently at Gunter Hill near Montgomery, AL. it is a COE park with quite a few full service sites. The sites near the river have amazing views. They have great trails and easy access to Montgomery. It is well maintained and very quiet.

When we visit New Orleans we always stay at Pontchartrain Landing. It is a bit of a drive into the city, but we like its location near the lake. The sites in some areas are tight. It has many on site amenities - restaurant (pretty good), pool (haven't used), laundry (not the best), and a friendly helpful staff. It is located on one of tne of the canals from the lake. Very peaceful considering the location.

For us what we look for is a campground that serves our purposes. Most important is how far to our destination and do we feel safe and comfortable.

Welcome to the forum! There are many great members willing to provide help at any time!

Regarding your question, my wife, who is a bit of an RV park / resort "snob" prefers the following amenities and so do I. Since we're blessed with great, full time careers, the use of our motorhome is limited to long weekend adventures mostly to the Texas Hill Country, southeast Texas Gulf Coast and southern Louisiana. We have our favorite RV resorts in these locations because they have the amenities we like:

- Wide, level concrete pad sites (crushed granite or other "dustless" gravel is also OK)
- Wide, paved driveways
- Great landscaping around each site with nice grass, trees and patio tables / chairs / benches (fire pits are nice available)
- Well maintained common areas with ponds
- Clean, up-to-date bathroom / shower facilities
- Pool & hot tub (mostly for grandkids when the travel with us)
- Clean, up-to-date laundry facility (mostly to wash / dry beach towels that are too big for the washer/dryer in our coach
- Walking trails other than driveways
- Nice, large office with small store with necessities if needed
- Customer focused office staff

Examples of our favorite RV resorts are shown below.

Also, if we venture to a new area, I look for RV resorts that may meet our preferences by using Google Earth and in the search bar typing "RV Resorts near City, State". I also use Good Sam Club and Trip Advisor to see reviews of RV resorts that would be first time use for us.

RV resorts with the amenities listed above are not inexpensive with a nightly cost in the $60 - $90 range which for our long weekend stays is very acceptable.

Hope this info is useful !
