If you belong to "Good Sam" try their trip routing program. Or, go purchase a "Streets & Trips" computer program and map out your route that way. I use "Streets and Trips" because you can alter the route as you plan and it will give you mileages along the way so you plan where you want to make your stops. I've used that program for my trips for many years.

We live in Bedford Va ............I would follow I-40 to I-81 north to I-64 east....that should get you pretty close.....we're leaving mid June for Simi Valley and decided to do I-40.

It depends on your travel style. Are you destination oriented or travel oriented? If you need to get there fast take the interstates. If you want to enjoy the travel, take the blue roads. Blue roads meaning highways designated as scenic routes. We travel as many scenic and state highways as practical which means there is no "one best way" to get where we're going.
