Bay View on the edge of Petoskey,MI has more turn of the century cottages than you will see anywhere and a couple of good RV resorts in the area (pricey but nice). Also Harbor Springs for the high end cottages. Some are 3rd generation and worth millions but used a few weeks a year. Along with that comes very interesting retail shops and restaurants.

Lots of Trolls, those in Michigan that live down below the bridge, have commented. The Michigan side has lots of sandy beaches and very scenic. The UP is a different world, more rustic. Mackinaw Island is not to be missed. The French were there before the Spanish got to Calf. Wisconsin, stress the con to sound like you are from here, has a few spots. Lambeau field will be a half mile off your route. Even if not an NFL fan it is fun to say you have been to Lambeau. Door county is a side trip worth taking. Lots of Chicago thinks that is the only thing worthwhile in WisConsin. Then in Milwaukee is the Harley-Davidson museum. I am not a bike rider but it was very interesting and a destination for thousands every month of the year. If you have time, stop in at the Iron Horse Inn for a meal or a beer, right near the museum. Miller Park the baseball stadium, with its retractable roof is more interesting than the team that plays there this year, but if you like baseball...

This triggers more memories. The tunnel of trees is great. Kinda narrow, but doable. I also remember the Park Garden Cafe in Petosky. Now known as City Park Grill A few decades back, wandering around Petosky, you used to see a few business names from boyhood friends mentioned in Ernest Hemingway's biography.

More Lake Michigan stuff. Just 65 miles from the shore is the Gilmore museum Gilmore Car Museum, Hickory Corners, West Michigan
They allow primitive RC camping on site. In a grassy meadow. $20 per night, 20A electric.

My wife and I traveled up the west coast of MI. Stayed in Ludington a few days then up to Mackinac a few days. Then down the east coast. It was one of the best vacations we have ever been on. West coast of MI. is awesome with the sand dunes and lighthouses. Mackinac island was great also. Then the u.p. was like a whole different place. Someday we would like to make that trip again. Definitely lots to see along the west coast.

Can't miss the lighthouses. Michigan has more than both East and West coasts. Send for the MI visitors guide to maximize your time. There is a National Park in the UP too. The wreck of the Fitzgerald museum is worth the drive to get there.

Is this tunnel of trees (hwy 119) drive doable in a 40' coach with toad?

I drove it in the toad back in 09. It's a State Hwy so it most likely meets standard height regulations and I don't recall it being curvy.

Ok on state hwy. Wasn't too sure if trees hung over or not. Good deal. I try it tomorrow.

Planning to drive around Lake Michigan, the entire lake.
Just drove 119 in toad. Very scenic. We drove it north in the late afternoon sun. Be better if going north to do earlier in the day. Sun was in our eyes.
Lots of awesome lake side homes. I'd say that it is doable in a 40' coach but it will keep driver busy. Lots of turns.
