Potholes in the Hwys & Frwys?

We're from Florida traveling around some midwest states: Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky etc. in a 43ft class A motorhome plus tow car. Does anyone know what condition I-40 across the Great Smoky Mnt National Park is in? We are debating whether to cross over or not; have read some parts are very challenging? Thanks for any current information!

A couple of years ago, 40 was being resurfaced from Statesville to Hickory westbound. Best info I have right now

I was over it recently and recall it being in pretty good shape - you don't actually cross the Smokies but rather follow the Pigeon River thru them which makes it a little curvy but to grades to speak of.
