We were traveling West on I64 near the New River Gorge when we heard a loud bang and severe loss of power as we crested a long steep climb. I needed a place to pull off and attempt a repair, I carry my own tools and had a good idea what was wrong. We pulled off on the first exit and to my surprise there was a sign pointing to an RV park. We limped along on a narrow gravel road looking for the park. Sure enough another RV park sign appeared and a short climb up a steep drive brought us to Shady Acres. By this time smoke was coming from under the hood. We were met by John, a helper, who listened to our problem. He led us to a site and said if I needed any help to just ask. It soon became apparent that I needed a part. The park owner said he'd drive me to a place to get the part and called the parts store to see if they had what I needed. He drove me in to get the part and when I offered to pay for the drive he said "no, that's what we are here for." I had the repairs done before sundown and we spent a quiet pleasant night at the park.

The park is Shady Rest and it is about 20 miles East of Beckley, WV. The park is not fancy but it is quiet and peaceful. In the summer you may find bluegrass picking and singing for your enjoyment. Just meeting the people makes a stay an enjoyable experience. You can see more on their website
