Quartz Lake State Campground
End of June we spent a fun week at the Gakona, AK RV park. We rafted and fished the Gulkana River for king salmon. Had 10-15 family camping also and had a great time. We caught some great fish and had an all around good time. My sister and her family were up from NY and stayed with us. Took a couple coolers of fish home as luggage.
This weekend we will go to Quartz Lake to relax. We will take the motorboat this time and fish, ski, tube, just have fun. This week the weather in Interior Alaska has been great, 81 in Fairbanks yesterday. It will be the first time we tow the boat with this RV.

I used to fish at Quartz Lake back in the early 80's. Took me a year to find the secret, but once I learned how to catch them, those silver salmon were the best I've ever had.

Just thought of a question. What is the name of the other little lake north of Quartz, right along side of the highway? We spent a lot of time there too.

That's Birch Lake. It is a nice little lake, good fishing there too.
This last weekend we made it to Valdez and had some good luck halibut fishing. The weather was a little cool and wet, but the winds were calm.

I never made it down to the coast for any of the good fishing, something I've always regretted.
