Ready for camping!
So far, we have 2 camping trips planned. A week at DeSoto State Park in Alabama in April and a long weekend at Caesar's Creek State Park in Ohio for June. Might do a weekend at Grandpa's Farm Campground in Indiana in May, but haven't decided. Hoping to get up to Sault Ste Marie, MI, for 4th of July weekend.
Haven't made any plans for the rest of the season. Any ideas for weekend getaways in the mid-West?
Thanks!

Hi, if you are in the UP anyway, you might consider Pictured Rocks or Tahquamenon Falls. Both gorgeous...both probably full for the 4th, but food for thought.

Have the upgrades been finished at Caesar's creek? Our home park was Thousand Trails at Wilmington. My wife is from Wilmington and she graduated from Wilmington HS in 1975. Her dad ran the rec program there for numerous years.
Have you been to Cowan Lake yet? They were closing the campground for the winter to upgrade over too. We went there in October to look around and they were already closing loops and digging up to put FHU, 50 amps. Just wondering how much they have finished in there.
You could run up to Marengo and stay at Cardinal Center Campground right off of
I-71, north of Columbus. It is where they have BIG trap shooting events. These are national and international events and 2 years ago Wide World of Sports, ESPN Germain , Swedish , Britain tv stations were there.

Caesar's Creek was our last camping trip, last year; our spot was on the new loop... very nice stay!
Haven't heard of Cowan Lake, but Marengo sounds familiar. Will definitely have to check those out.

Also north of Columbus is a NEW KOA called Columbus North. It used to be called Autumn Lakes it is between Sparta and I-71. On the costly side but it was nice, little restaurant in there and they delivery to you, at the time you want.
We had a truck problem and had to stay 3 days longer for repairs. They were nice enough to explain to the couple who were to be coming into our site behind us for us. We couldn't leave no truck, in shop for repairs. While talking to the couple that evening, they said KOA gave them 10% off for the problems. So they bought pizza for us & them.

Just a thought......."Everyone" is ready to get back out camping......It may be a wise move to make plans early with reservations. It may prevent some disappointment down the road.
Just sayin'.........
Have fun!!

I agree on the advance planning and reservations. We bought our first travel trailer this past March. We were very surprised how the campgrounds and especially state parks in our area, NC/SC, were booked for months.
The last few days we booked 13 weekend trips, primarily popular SC state parks, myrtle beach area, and a few private campgrounds in NC. We have reservations starting in two weeks down at Myrtle Beach, through November in various areas. This was to provide a framework for trips we can count on, we will augment this with last minute mid week trips and picking up last minute cancellations occasionally.
Our first year of travel trailer ownership taught us many things. Making advance reservations was certainly one of them.
One unique trip not too far from you would be Gettysburg. They have a big civil war reenactment each summer I hear with various camping areas nearby. Visit the valley forge monument, take day trip into Philly to see museums, take the hershey chocolate factory tour, or take kids/grandkids to Hershey Park amusement park. We plan to do this trip sometime ourselves.
We also looked briefly at Daniel Boone SP, mammoth cave, kentucky if I recall. Day trip to Graceland in Memphis, maybe some atv or utv rentals near the famous Hatfield McCoy trail system in WV. There is a bourbon trail in Kentucky also, various distilleries to visit. A good trip could be put together pretty quick in this area I'm sure.
