Reno & Sacramento area Full Hookup Places?

Planning a family trip for an event in Reno at the end of April. Can anyone recommend a park in the downtown or University of Nevada area? Seems like the best place I can find online is the Grand Sierra RV park, but there is quite a mix of comments for that place. I only need to be there 2 or 3 nights so doesn't have to be great.

Also need a place along I-5 coming up from San Diego - some place south of Sacramento? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Probably the nicest park in the area is The Sparks RV Marina Park but it would be a bit of a drive to the University

We live in Reno! Personally, we think the nicest park here is called Gold Ranch. It is about 8 miles west of city center, just off Hwy 80. It has a beautiful view, nice people and there is a very small casino next door if you like that sort of stuff.

Grand Sierra is a big cement parking lot. Not our favorite spot.

Sparks Marina is a nice park, but we don't care for it. They have "astro turf" at the sites in place of real grass and heaven forbid your dog comes out of the trailer and has to go really bad! One of our doxies piddled on the astro turf and we had someone at the park at our door almost immediately. They told us if it happened again we would be asked to leave.

DO NOT go to Keystone RV Park, Victorian RV Park, Bonanza Terrace, or Silver Sage.

I forgot, but there is a KOA at Boomtown in Verdi. Not bad but not real attractive.

If you need anything, just private message me and I'll try to help.

Just a couple miles north right on Virginia Street is the Shamrock RV Park (never stayed there). We travel to Reno several times a year as my mother lives there. We stay north of town at the Border Town Casino. Nice small, quite park but a 10 min drive to downtown.

If you decide to take 99, we stayed a the Madera Wallyworld overnight. Good place to crash for the night.

Cal Expo right in Sac is full hookup and a good price. Itís just a gravel lot, no amenities but ok for a day or week. Easy in and out but some traffic on interstate to get there.

Sac West RV Park is a decent choice. It is in West Sac but close to downtown. A little nicer than the fairgrounds.

Sac West is nice park but might be a bit out of the way.
Fairgrounds is a gravel abyss but great for a quick stop

We used to live there, the recommendations made by hgtyt are great. I would add my 2 cents about Shamrock. We stayed there a couple of years ago, the mgr was erratic and the sites are tight, never again. If we ever return we would stay at Grand Sierra or Gold Ranch.

wow, it's a sign of the time$ when $40 a night in a gravel lot is "at a good price". I guess that's what you pay to be in the city.
