Question Reservations or not?

Hello fellow RV'rs! This site has been so helpful. Learning new stuff every time I visit. This will be our first Snowbird trip South. 1st order of business, Albaquerque NM Hot Air Balloon festival. We have reservations made for there. Following there we will stay South to see other points of interest. My question is, we have several camping membership options. Other campers have told us to not make reservations and fly by the seat of our pants and some say you'll need reservations to stay any length of time. We would like to find places to stay for a couple of week at least others even longer. We do not want to pack up every couple of days and move. Any insight from you seasoned travelers would be greatly appreciated. Memberships we belong to are Thousand Trails, Resorts of Distinction, AOR camping, ACN camping, RPI, & Good Sam. Thank you!

Hi,

We don't make reservations unless we are going to stay put some place for a week or more. If just traveling and can't find a place to stay overnight you can always go to Wal mart, cracker barrel or a lot of other places.

We stay for 3 months in a campground then we make reservations for sure.

One campground membership you don't have you may want to get is Passport America as they give 50% off campgrounds but do have some restrictions. Go to www.passportamerica .com and check it out.

Enjoy!!!!!

We only make reservations at major tourist areas. I usually have an idea of the park we want to stay at and call them the morning of the move. We got surprised at Moab UT a couple of years ago. I called the camp ground we wanted to stay at and found they were full. Pulled out the Woodalls directory and started calling, I got to the last rv park listed before I found a spot. Seems the offroad/jeep crowd pretty well take over Moab from Easter till Labor Day. Great place to visit.

In my opinion unless you travel a lot, the camp memberships don't seem to make sense. Most places we visit are not members anyway and the campgrounds and resorts that are in their systems don't appeal to us. We make reservations most of the time for peace of mind.

If you are looking for a specific stay for a specific date, definitely make reservations.

If you don't really care where you stay, living like a gypsy, don't bother.
