Returning From Myrtle Beach need Stop-Over in NC or VA
On our return trip from Myrtle Beach SC. in a few weeks we will be leaving the MB. (North Myrtle) area on a Saturday morning. We would like to take two days to make it back to the Northern Ohio area. I always wanted to stop at Pilot Mtn. State Park near the NC/VA boarder to check out. But that park only has a few trailer sites and no electric service.....I kind of want a campground with electric service....It can still be very hot in late Aug. We plan on taking routes 9 to 52 and then I-77. So I'm looking for a place between say Winstom-Salem NC (Route 52) and Charleston WV. (I-77). Some where near either route 52 or I-77 and large enough to have a electric site available.....for a Saturday evening. I would like to have contact info on a few different places and call as I'm traveling or when I start to get tired....to confirm a site. thanx....

Jim,
Wytheville, VA looks to be close to half way. I know it wouldn't be your 1st choice, but there's a KOA in Wytheville (276) 228-2601. I also found Deer Trail (276) 228-3636 listed for Wytheville.

Oooh, I just checked rvparkreviews, here's another in Wytheville: Fort Chiswell RV Park (276) 637-6868.
Give me a bit more time & I'll look for state parks - although, most likely, those might require a 2 night say on a weekend (if they're anything like the OH SP's.)

Mayberry RV park at Mt Airy, NC is very near and a great place to stop over for a day or two. Wifi, 50amp, FHU sites. Great and friendly staff.

Thanx...That Mayberry campground looks really close to the freeway exit and the sites look very level.....And it is not far from Pilot Mtn. State park....I'll print up their contact info.
I also printed up contact for Ft. Criswell....
Any more places say northern VA. or as far north as Beckley WV.
This way I'll have 3 places each about an hour further north of each other....I'll just drive till I get tired.....

Lake Stephens CG seems to be the closest to Beckley (800) 786-8430 / (304) 934-5323.

+1 for Fort Chiswell! Have overnight-ed there several times traveling from the Baltimore area to Western NC. Not fancy but has everything you need, is clean and has a Flying J nearby so you can top off if necessary!

Update::::
Just got back from our trip to Myrtle Beach. We stopped off at Fort Criswell Campground Saturday night on our return trip home. That was a very good choice. Most of the sites are full service pull-thrus and level. The restrooms / showers were super clean. Even being only about a 1/4 mile off the freeway (I-81 / I-77) VA. there was a hill between the campground and the freeway. There was no such freeway noise at all. Just the cows grazing.....There were about 80 sites total. We called about 6 hours before arriving to see if a site was available. Even with the NASCAR race in Bristol TN. Saturday night, about 80 miles away, there were a few sites left.

Another vote for Fort Chiswell. Mostly pull-throughs so you won't have to unhook is you don't want to.
