RGV next winter

We've spent some past winter time in FL and this year in AZ which we enjoyed but is just too far so we are looking at the RGV next winter in hopes of finding a place we'll want to return too. Many Snowbirds or Winter Texans move south for several months and just live their normal lives in a warmer climate but my ladies treat it more like a vacation. So they like to have things to see, shopping to be done and restaurants to be tried. What I would like to do is spend 4-6 weeks with a week to 10 days in several places to get a feel for the area. Assuming the entire RGV is not the same everywhere, I would appreciate your thoughts on which towns we should try to give us a good feel for what the area has to offer. Thanks in advance.

RGV next winter

For sure put South Padre island on your list. There is a good KOA on the bay and right across the rad from the beach. We like Bentson Palms in Mission. Very quiet but not too far from good food and shopping. Good park with nice pool area. Happy hours all the time.

I'd recommend the Rockport area.

Rockport is good but a bit cool. Mercedes(Llano grande) or Donna (Victoria. Palms) is a good compromise between S padre and Mission. Outlet mall in Mercedes. Donna has a great flea market...i think its called Wes don.
