We are looking for input on Mission Texas area. Anyone out there that has been there. PLaces to stay or not to stay. We are going in the middle of April for 2 weeks.

If you are looking to boondock for a short time, there is a Camping World in Mission, TX that allows overnighting.

We stayed in Bentsen Palm Village in Mission in March, 2007. It was a really nice resort with beautiful landscaping, a pool, and a woodworking shop. There is a state park right next to the RV park with excellent birding.

I don't know about weekly rates, but the monthly rates were below $500. Their most popular months seem to be Dec through March, so you should be able to get in for April.

I second the positive opinion about Bentsen Palm Village. We have stayed there two of the previous three winters. If we had not waited until March 2008 to make reservations for this winter, we would have returned. They are full this winter, but your April date should not be a problem. The temps could be very HOT at that time. This park is located in a very quite area away from the main highway, Rt 83. The pool is very small. The sites are a mix of pull throughs and back ins. A five mile dedicated bike trail starts at the campground. Entrance to the World Birding Center is free to residents of the campground. This part of Mission is slightly west of the greatest part of the winter Texan parks. IE not central to the RGV. We liked the area so much we bought an RV lot at Retama Village adjoining Bentsen Palm Village.

RVing in the RGV contains most of the RV parks in the RGV. I think it's a really handy tool for locating where you may wish to stay. There are links to the visitors bureau for those cities having one.
You'll find parks ranging from <$200/mo to $700/mo, depending on your desires. Very few are un-desirable; the region depends on tourist money to live.
