Rocky Mountain Hi

Just got back from a three weeks in the Colorado mountains. We did Durango, Silverton, Taylor River Reservoir, and Leadville.

All I can say is "Wow, What a trip!" We had some rain, but not enough to bother, just waited a little and it cleared up. The road up to Clear Lake, one of our favorite alpine lakes up from S. Mineral Creek Road just north of Silverton, was stilled blocked with a big snow drift, but that was up pretty high. The wild flowers were out of this world, the best we have ever seen.

We did back roads just about every day and the views was nothing short of spectacular.

Would recommend the Colorado mountains in July to anyone! We boondocked mostly, but stayed in a FS Campground when boondocking was not available.

Just a few of my Photos can be seen here https://www.flickr.com/photos/97815506@N06/

Your photos brought back good memories. We've spent many summers in those areas. The scenery and Jeeping are tops. What impressed us about the flowers is that if you poke around in a patch of 1' area you can find 25 varieties in that small area. There are many good boondocking spots or forest service campgrounds. Highly recommended!

Were you in Silverton for the July 4 festivities? Fun!

I have a Nikon D7100 with a Nikorn 18-200 VR Lens. Most water shots are on a tripod of course, slow shutter and high aperture, f22-f29. Adds a little to the photo and is fun to play with to see what different settings will do. All of that info shows up in my flicker account, but evidently not for viewers. May try to find if I can change that.

Thanks for viewing!

We left home on the 5th, too many people out there on holidays and we try to avoid the crowd. That said, there were a lot of people around everywhere we went. Saw a lot of "No Vacancy" signs.

We almost came home through Telluride but the water heater drain plug ruptured the morning we were heading home, so we made a kinda bee line home, and the plug was the first thing I fixed.

We will watch the fall color and head there if it is good. We did that in 2012 and the color was great! We love that side of the mountains too!
