Route from Elisabeth City towards Myrtle Beach

In early October I will be pulling my 35 ft 5th wheel starting near Elisabeth City NC and heading towards Myrtle Beach.. We would love suggestions on where to stay and what to see? Not sure we will make it all the way to Myrtle Beach but we are open to suggestions

Thank you

If you want to stop on the way, take 17S to New Bern. The 2018 KOA of the year will be on your right just before you hit NB. If you want the ocean, from NB get on 70E towards Morehead City. Stay at Holiday Trav-l, which is on the ocean in Emerald Isle (the barrier island across from Morehead). Head south on Hwy 24, which will now bypass Wilmington. Easy trip to Myrtle Beach. We live in Morehead and take that route when we head south.

PM me if you have more questions.

New Bern is a good choice for a stop with plenty of history around that area. Regarding Emerald Isle, it got whacked pretty good by that last hurricane so better call the parks and be sure all is ok. If you stay in New Bern you can ride out to the beach and check it out. (Would normally recommend going down OBX but Ocracoke was devastated by the storm and roads are still closed. Last I heard the road MAY be open by Thanksgiving and only emergency ferry service was operational to get supplies in.)

South of Wilmington you can visit Fort Fisher (Civil War era) and the Aquarium nearby. Take the Ferry over to Southport if time permits.

Not sure where you are staying in MB but a visit to historic Southport south of Wilmington is a good day trip too.

I live in Myrtle Beach and we go to Southport to eat at the Frying Pan Rest. from time to time. It's right on the water where the Cape Fear River and the Intercoastal Waterway merge.

Great! OBX is a beautiful place but often times out there in its own weather system. This is not you is it?
