RV Campgrounds in or near Raleigh North Carolina

Does anyone have actual experience of a campground in or near Raleigh NC they you would recommend? We need something with full hookup, 50 amp for the month of September. I have found a couple of places in Clayton, but they appear to be mostly mobile home parks with a few RV spaces.

This is not an easy area in which to find good CG's. Our interests are more on the west side of Raleigh and the best we have come up with are a couple of places in Moncure. The one we stayed at was acceptable but that was all. If you read the reviews on campgroundreviews.com the best place may be the NC Fairgrounds, but they only have availability when the site doesn't have a big event. The KOA in Smithfield is another option but it is quite a bit further away.

The Wake County fairgrounds in Raleigh recently constructed a new campground. I drove through there a couple of weeks ago for a friend who is coming to the area. It should meet your needs. I was told to call the fairground office to make arrangements. There are also several older sites sites around the public area, but the new campground is isolated from the rest of the park and is located past the horse arena.

Yes, the new campground is attractive, but they have a 14 night limit. We need to be in Raleigh for 4 or 5 weeks.

Is this different from the NC Fairground RV park? If so, do you have a link to it or a phone number? The NC Fairground doesn't take reservations and will be full up with State Fair stuff in October when we want to use it.

I was told to call the fairground office when I visited it a couple of weeks ago. Below is their web site:

NCDA&CS - N.C. State Fair Division

Looks like you can't make reservations from what I read, but I would contact them to see.

Unfortunately, there is not much around Raleigh. The KOA in Smithfield is nice but pricey. RVaction in Selma doesn't have the anemities, but is more affordable. Not sure where in Raleigh you will be going to, but it is about a 45 minute drive from the KOA and about an hour from Selma.

We're pretty new to this and not sure exactly what you're looking for. But both Falls Lake and Jordan Lake state parks have camping. I think Jordan has a 14 day max (but it is beautiful, and about 4 miles down the road from us). I don't think there is a max on Falls Lake.
Jordan is SW of Raleigh but only about 30 minutes.
Falls is North and also about 30-45 minutes.

We've camped at Falls Lake. Nice campground with one real drawback - they lock they gates at 6pm! If you're not back in by then, you have to park outside the gates and walk in, up to a mile depending on campsite location. Other state parks give you a combination to the gate, but not at Falls Lake. Very inconvenient as we have business to do in Raleigh including evenings.

Wow! 6:00, that's a bit early!!
I just checked and both Jordan and Falls close gates at 8pm during September.
But keep Jordan Lake in mind for future. It seems like a long ways from Raleigh, but really not so much:-)

Last time we stayed there was January so the gate closing is probably at sunset. This time around its just too restrictive for us even at 8pm. I've found a campground in Clayton called Coopers Mobile Home and RV Park. A couple of ok reports on Tripadvisor so we'll give them a try.

I two was looking for a place near Raleigh to stay from Columbus Day till Wednesday and I chose Falls Lake State Recreation Center in Wake Forest NC. I am a little concerned about the early curfew as we will be traveling from Central NY, I plan to stop somewhere along the way because I will not be able to arrive at the campground before it closes. Most of the other camping places were trailer parks and too far away from the Raleigh area to be considered.

We are now staying at Coopers RV Park on US 70 south of Raleigh. It is mostly a mobile home community with some full hookup 50 amp RV spaces. It is very clean and well kept. We are paying $450 per month electric and water included. It's probably about the same distance from downtown Raleigh as Falls Lake. And there's no curfew!

We had a daughter that lived in Raleigh for two years and we stopped there on our way to and back from FLORIDA. We stayed at the Fairground and it was the only place we could find anywhere near to Raleigh. They told us to go in and find a spot and the ranger would be around to check us in. You can find them on the Web. The did have wi-fi included with there price.
