RV Camping Near Yellowstone - KOA West Yellowstone

We are planning our second Yellowstone trip for this summer, and like to book our sites in advance. Fishing Bridge is closed when we are going in 2020. We were looking at KOA West Yellowstone, near the West Gate. Don't know why but Google maps is having trouble locating routes through Yellowstone. Any advice on KOA West Yellowstone and how it's situated to get to the various places in the park?

Looks like it's on Hwy 29 8.4-miles west of West Yellowstone, MT. Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA Journey, 1545 Targhee Pass Hwy, West Yellowstone, MT 59758

WAIT, there are two KOAs in the area. I think the one you're looking for is: Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA. It's a mile closer to West Yellowstone. Both are are on Targhee Pass Hwy about 10 minutes West of the town of West Yellowstone.

If you don't mind a 5-mile longer drive don't overlook Henry's Lake State Park in Island Park, ID.

There are 2 KOA’s near West Yellowstone. One is Mountainside and the other is called Westgate. They’re very close to each other on Highway 29, about 10 or so miles from the west entrance. I’ve stayed at Westgate and it was fine. Mountainside looks fine also. Grizzley is also a nice park and is in town about 1/2 mile from the west gate.

We stayed at Yellowstone RV Park at Mack's Inn in Island Park, Id - about 20 miles south of the West Yellowstone entrance, and a nice, less expensive option to the KOAs and Grizzly.

Henry's Lake State Park is very nice as is, staying in Yellowstone itself. Do you really need full hookup? Madison campground is great.

Google Maps isn’t much help this time of year since most of the roads in Yellowstone are closed.
Either of the KOAs or Grizzly are good places to stay.
It’s common to have traffic backed up at the West Yellowstone entrance, but that area is still your best bet for a RV park. When planning, keep in mind that Yellowstone is huge and the speed limit is 45 mph max. In other words, it takes a fair amount of time to get anywhere.

The roads are closed for the winter. Google knows that. So it won't rout you through Yellowstone.

We stayed at KOA West Yellowstone Mountain Side last August. It was OK. Lot's more options closer to the park tho.

I've been to Grizzly twice. It is one of the nicest CG's for the area. Plus it is very close to the west entrance. Reservations are suggested as they stay filled up most of the time.

Grizzly is a very nice and close to the park. You can even walk into town. When we return someday we’ll try to reserve there.

We stayed at West Yellowstone in 2013 and thought it was just fine and not too far from the West Entrance.
