RV park near the Henry Ford Museum

We're considering a visit to the Henry Ford this summer (early August) and in researching I can only find two RV parks anywhere near it, the Wayne County fair grounds and Detroit Greenfield RV park.

The reviews for each is mixed, at best. We're just looking for a safe place to park for a few nights, as close to Greenfield Village and the Museum as possible and with good access for our 43' motorhome and toad. We don't want to spend a couple hours each day "commuting" back and forth.

Looking for opinions from those that have been there.

Thanks.

Just looked up the Wayne county fair dates - its' the week we would have been there.

Looks like this visit will have to be put off, again.

When we went there we stayed in Monroe at Harbortown RV Resort. Very nice place with good access to I-75. Well worth the 35 mile commute.

My wife has family in the Detroit area so we go there often. Stayed at Wayne County Fairgrounds the first time and we don't plan to go back. Grass wasn't cut and no sites with sewer hookups. We had stayed at Detroit Greenfield Park many times and have had good experiences each time. We were there last year for Labor Day and will probably go back again in 2016.

We stayed at Wayne County Fairgrounds. It was safe, clean & inexpensive. Grass was fresh cut- I am sure the gentleman that stays in the area regularly knows more than I do, but, the fairgrounds were a welcome sight to us after we had walked out of 2 dirt ball places on the highway.

We have also have relatives close, and find Wayne County fairground suitable and convenient for two adults and our dog. The two locations are different concepts, so one can choose whatever suits.

Wayne County fairgrounds $27. More bare bones, but short walking distance to restaurants and a Walmart.

Detroit Greenfield Park $43 and up + $3 children and $5 adults for visitors to your site. More like a resort.

Last August we stayed at Camp Dearborn on our way to Lake Michigan. From Camp Dearborn, we visited the HF Museum and the Ford F150 assembly plant in Dearborn. We would return to Camp Dearborn if we were in the area again. We and our friend have 36 foot Class A's and our other friend had a 38 foot 5th wheel.

X3 on Harbortown! Monroe has a nice downtown area you can explore. You can go to Toledo for a Mudhens AAA game. They are the Detroit Tigers AAA team. Also Toledo has Tony Pacos. Made famous by Klinger on the old TV show Mash.

Highly recommend Camp Dearborn in Milford.
Wayne County Fair Grounds started a major upgrade of their campgrounds last fall. Putting full hookup sites in the main campground area. I have not checked them this year. But should be a much better place to stay.

PS the "Holiday Grille" is a restaurant in a little shopping center near there. The Holiday Grille is the BEST- everything the kitchen produced looked great! Prices were cheap, food was perfect! I had a salad big enough for 4 people, Be sure & go there.

AND, we washed 2 loads of clothes at the fairgrounds for $5.

Thank you so much everyone for the input. We've made reservations at Harbortown, it looks to be just what we were looking for, and are looking forward to our visit. It has the added benefit of being relatively close for friends that live in Bowling Green Ohio and they'll be joining us for our visit to the Henry Ford.
