Post RV Parks Near Pecos, TX

We are currently in Alpine, TX and we were planning to go up to Pecos & stay for a few days but it seems the TRA-Park isn't rated very well.

Anyone have any suggestions for RV Parks near that area?

Thank you!

Ernie,

How was it, restrooms & showers, sites level and such? It doesn't have very good reviews at all. Sounds like a lot of oil workers that live there.

Thanks for the comment!

Yes we checked campgroundreviews.com before I posted. Hoping there is something out there that is relatively new or revamped and in better shape than listed.

There is a state park we stayed at some time ago and I think it has been re-done since we were there.
Balmorhea State Park

Balmorhea State Park
Balmorhea is great, has a BIG pool. It doesn't get much use this time of year.

But is 42 miles from Pecos.

IMO Pecos texas is the arm pit of the nation...depressing beyond belief. Nothing going on, town is dead, on and on.
The skip park is just a one night stop over on the way out of the area. Next to the local airport....Not fun.

Consider you've been warned.

Seriously, Pecos does have a very interesting museum, with something like 900 different varieties of barbed wire. Of course, our dog's name is Pecos! We did a day stop in Pecos, on the way to Modland-Odessa, which has a wonderful Presidential museum. But three days in Pecos, you'd better have DirecTV in your RV. Ft. Davis is worth a couple of days, interesting fort and the McDonald Observatory is not to be missed.

A little further up the road is Monahans State Park. It's basically sand dunes with a few trailer hookups. Nothing fancy.

Most private RV places near Midland-Odessa are full of folks working in the oil patch.

Good luck and welcome.

I bet you have never been to Pancho Villa State Park in Columbus, New Mexico. If the US ever needs an enema, that is where they will stick it in.

People in these area either love it or hate it. When I first moved to West Texas I was in culture shock………….learned to accept it and like it.

We stayed in the Escapees park for a week 3 or 4 years ago. It was nothing great, but no complaints either. Sites are level (what isn't around there??), as I recall it took care parking due to metal patio covers, next to the airport as mentioned but the only planes we heard was an occasional single engine type. We checked out the local museum and a few other things, and got our annual TX vehicle inspection on both the car and the MH at a nearby Chevrolet dealership. The town was a bit depressing over all, but no bad for a short visit.
