Safe place

Hi folks, My wife, I and our two little dogs, are traveling from Tucson, AZ to Yuma,AZ along the way I'm looking for a safe area with dark skies for my telescope. I believe we're going down route 8 all the way. Free or Campground that's not an arm and leg . But dark enough for astro photography.. Oh we're c are traveling in a 31' Class C
Thank you

In Benson, AZ there is a campground with an observatory....Butterfied RV Resort and Observatory. They may have some advice for you on locations that will work for you.

On Hwy 8 midway between Tucson is Painted Rocks Petroglyph site - a BLM site. Under $10/night. Around Dateland. Our kind of place!

^^ Painted Rock petroglyph site, The exit is just west of Gila Bend, next to the large solar field. Drive north about 6 miles(???)

No hookups, its a BLM site.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Try Googling arizona dark sky sites and you get a list of certified dark sky sites in Arizona. Better yet, use this same search term in the search box of Google Maps, you shows the locations on the map. Looks like none are on your route, all the other way. hmmm.

As previously stated, Painted Rock would be perfect if you want dark skies. It is very affordable and about halfway between your stated cities. Here is my report from four years ago about the area.
