Salem IL to Billings, MT

It looks like we will be making a trip to Billings, MT & back in about 3 weeks. I plan to break it up into 3 days of driving. It will be St Louis to Kansas City on I-70, then I-29 to Sioux Falls, then I-90 to Billings. Overnights at the Rock Port Rivers Edge Campground in Rockport, Mo & the Belvidere East/Exit 170 KOA in Midland SD seems to break it up into about 3 equal days of driving.

Does anyone have any experience with these two campgrounds? As an alternative, what is the route like taking I-25 from Cheyenne to I-90? What is 34/212 like from Sturgis to I-90?

Thanks for the help.

Ed

I've stayed at the KOA in Belvidere. Too desolate for me.

I prefer staying at the Oasis RV park in Oacoma SD. Nearby Oasis restaurant is good.
Cenex truck stop is big and easy to navigate with a large RV.

Really keep an eye on the weather around Rapid City, SD Black Hills. They can really cook up some blizzards this time of year (through May).

The KOA in Buffalo Wy is nice if your timing and plans get goofed up.

I90 from Sioux Falls, SD to Billings, MT is in good shape. Some old sections, some under construction, but mostly smooth.

There are some fair to excellent road condition apps for Ipad for your entire trip. Not sure about Android.

We spent a nig b that the KOA in Rockport last Fall. Seemed to be a nice place. There was a section of long- term/Summer spots but we liked it for the short stay. We visited Antique Archeology in Le Claire while we were there.
