I stayed at Sunland San Diego RV Resort in La Mesa last year for San Diego Comic-Con. At a time when the whole region is booked it wasn't too bad on the wallet. We took the trolley, that was conveniently located about 30 feet away (the resort is wedged between the freeway and the trolley), to downtown. I think we got 10 day passes. It's a ways out there but it's closer than Oak Creek.
