Our youngest daughter recently moved from the Mission Gorge area of San Diego to Pacific Beach. While visiting her before the move, we had stayed at Santee Lakes and really enjoyed it. In looking for a park closer to her new place we decided to stay at Campland on the Bay for the 8 days we'll be here.

I'll comment on the park later but the real purpose of this post is to give a plug to the AREA. There are two RV parks (as far as I can tell) in the Mission Bay area. Both are located right on the water with bay beach access. We love to ride our bicycles in safe environments and are wide bike/walk paths nearly the entire way around the bay and on several islands. We could ride to our heart's content with great scenery all around us. Just a short hop from one bike path to another and we were biking along the Pacific and through some great resturants, shops, entertainment, etc. Very Good Stuff...

As for Campland by the Bay... it has as many or more good features as any place we've ever stayed... and we have full timed through 34 states. Marina, a great little grill/ice cream parlor/cocktail lounge...well stocked market...location,location,location...and much more. There are three downsides in our book. It's probably to be expected in this area but the site are tight and many "shaded" sites prohibit sat reception and cause big rigs fits slipping into them.... Also to be expected, it's expensive...very expensive $50/$80 night... but, the biggest reason we probably won't be back is that they will allow us to have our three small dogs (for $3/night/dog!) so long as we are paying either the daily or weekly rates, but have a two dog limit for those paying monthly rates. I can't really make a lot of sense of their policy but it is what it is and it locks us out.

Before we leave Sunday we're going to visit the other RV park which is right across the canal from us. It looks like it has more long term folks but their website is unclear on their pet limitations so wish us luck because we would really like to spend some time around here this winter.

It is to bad that you cannot use the Military facilities. We stayed at Admiral Baker for considerably less, but I do hear they are raising their prices.

I feel your pain. I do not like spending a lot of money for a night's stay and when it approaches $40 or more I really try to find something for less. I'm not looking for a "mansion" of an RV park, just somewhere to hang the had for a temporary period of time.

I hope you put your CG findings in the RV Park Review site.

I checked out Lake Jennings last week along with Santee Lakes. Lake Jennings , IMOH, is not suitable for larger RV's most sites are uneven and difficult to enter. Santee Lakes has only about 25 sites on the resevoir...others are on loops with little grass and few trees. Both are quite a distance from San Diego sites and roadways are crowded-stop&go during the 2 hr commute times.

After spending a lot of time in San diego over the years, we have decided that one of the best bargains and RV parks in the area is Santa Fe RV Resort
