San Diego recommendations?

I think we may save some fuel $$ this summer and stay closer to home, and spend the money on a nice park instead. Any recommendations for San Diego, Coronado or Mission Bay area? Probably late May or June when the fog rolls in here on the Central Coast (CA). I know we will stay at Rincon for a couple of days on our way south and probably go to the Reagan Library again. Maybe to the JP Getty too.

Take a look at Pechanga Casino Resort in Temecula. An exceptionally clean and well managed campground, wide paved streets, concrete pads and a good casino. Stayed there a week last year over Memorial Day..not cheap but well worth it. Lots to see and do in the area, we would definitely go back.

Bobs911 - We have May - grey and June - gloom here in San Diego. I recommend strongly that you do not make reservations close to the ocean that time of year. April is usual nice, but May and June forgetaboutit. There are two parks on mission Bay that are fine. You can also stop at Fiesta Island during the day with your RV for free right next to the bay. That way you don't have to pay for being in the fog. If you do decide to come you might get lucky. Otherwise WOF will be in town. (WOF = Wall of fog)

Pechanga in Temecula that a previous poster recommended is nice and might be enough inland to be clear. Otherwise try Heise State Park or Oakzanita. Both are above the WOF. Santee Lakes park is very very nice, but likely in fog also that time of year. If you come before Memorial day the desert can still be nice. The Spring at Borrego is a wonderful park. After Memorial day, too hot.

Check out the Chula Vista Marina & RV Park - also San Diego County has some nice parks. Koa in Chula Vista.

Thanks for the input. We stayed at Oceanside Elks and Chula Vista Elks - $23/night.
