San Diego to Durango Co. in early August
Spending August in Durango / Silverton/ Buena Vista areas, starting with Durango. I see a couple three routes to Durango that are not much different in distance.
Best route San Diego to Durango?
Overnight stops along the way?
Things to see along the way?
Thx!
Vince

Might want to give this a try RV Parky Trip Planner
Just need to create a free account in order to save your trip.
If you're a Good Sam member their Route Planner is also pretty good.

I would probably go I-8 to 85 up to PHX and then I-17 to Sedona. Hang in Sedona a few nights. Then up to I-40 East to Gallup, NM North to Cortez and over to Durango. If you have time, Go Left at Flagstaff for a side trip to Williams, AZ. Check out the South Rim of the GC.

If the OP goes this route, something nice to hit up in the regional area near Gallup, NM (actually more near Farmington) is the excellent fishery at the tail waters of the Navajo Dam on the San Juan River. Just do a search for Abe's Motel and Fly Shop to know what general area. This is an incredible fly fishing area and one to consider doing a guided trip to learn the area. There are even state park RV sites (Cottonwood Campground) with electric and water.
Assuming while in Durango you will be visiting Mesa Verde NP? It will be hot in August but definitely worth the visit.

I'd tend to favor this route - https://binged.it/2tGhpW9
Possible stops;
Vegas
Along the Virgin River
Zion
North Rim
Page/Lake Powell
Antelope Canyon
Monument Valley
Mexican Hat
Canyon of the Ancestors
Anasazi Heritage Center
Mesa Verde
All of the above are within an easy drive or directly on the route as you head to Durango.
Always try to make the Drive as Good as the Destination.
Enjoy the TRIP,

We are now in Durango. Came the I10 to just before Phoenix then I17 north to the Verde Valley area. Stayed at the TT outside of Cottonwood and near Sedona for a few days of sightseeing - great area. Then I40 to Gallop, then north to Cortez and east to Durango. Easy driving all the way. Thanks all!
