Sedona, AZ in late March

I plan to be in Arizona in late March of 2017. Have heard great things about Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. What type of weather should we expect? Plan on taking some easy hikes. Recommendations for a campground with good views.

First, be careful. We were in your shoes last winter. Spent two weeks here. Fell in love with the place and live here now.

By far the nicest campground is Rancho Sedona. It is not because of the views from it, although they are good. It sits down in a low spot along Oak Creek among towering cottonwood and sycamore trees. Right in the heart of Sedona. Expensive though.

Many people like Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, about 17 miles away. You have to move to dump. I also hear good reviews about Distant Drummer in Camp Verde, more like 30 miles away.

As to your question about weather in March, I am not the best one to answer as we have not been here for a March yet, but would expect beautiful Spring weather then. Little chance of rain. No chance of snow. Probably highs in the 70s. Lows in the 40s or 50s.

Feel free to PM me if you want to "talk" about it.

X2 on Rancho Sedona. The weather could be anything from 80* to below freezing at that time of year. The nights will almost certainly be cold no matter what. The air will be crisp and very clear. Great time for hiking, biking and other outdoor activities.

We've always used Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. It is a large park with trails and even a fishing pond. It's near a couple national monuments - Tuizigoot and Montezuma Castle. The small town has a little of everything for shopping and restaurants. The sites are large with great views, especially at night on nearby Jerome up on the hill - definitely a nice day trip but not with the RV (steep). It's a LOT more reasonable than the local RV parks and a short, scenic drive into Sedona.

Oops...I just saw you have another post going and I answered there, also. I thought it sounded familiar!

X 3 on Dead Horse Ranch SP. Beautiful sites, huge off leash dog park nearby, and centrally located between Jerome and Sedona - It's water & Electric only, but they have a good dump station.
Easier to get reservations than Rancho Sedona.

We are going to be staying in the area from mid February thru mid March. We chose Verde Valley near Cottonwood. Much less costly than staying right in Sedona. This will be our first winter in Arizona so we don't know what to expect either.

We stayed at Rio Verde in Cottonwood. Reasonable price, full hookups, but no views, tight, and not very scenic.

A good choice. We have our MH at Rio Verde RV which I think may be owned by the same people. At least they refer to each other. The advantage of the location is that you will have an excuse to explore Cottonwood too. And Jerome. Much closer from Cottonwood than from Sedona. If you like BBQ, don't miss Hog Wild BBQ in Cottonwood. They also have a Chicago connection with Italian beef. Does your nickname mean you are from Illinois?

We just moved to Sedona from Barrington IL. PM me when you get here (or sooner) if you need any local guidance. You will have a great trip.
