Seeking Florida Campground Recommendation

Living on FL SE coast of FL and having recently purchased a , new to us, Lance camper, we''re looking for suggestions for a FL campground for a shakedown trip. Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

LOTS of them around, though many will be full with snowbirds this time of year.
I'd suggest RVParky.com, enter the area you're interested in, presumably near you for a first short trip, and it will show you a list of campgrounds in that area, and give reviews on each one. There is also a link to the campground's website so you can get additional information from there.

If you look more towards the center of the state you'll probably have better luck finding available sites, as compared to on the coast near the beaches and other 'destination' areas.

An often seen suggestion here is to 'camp' for the weekend in your own driveway or yard. That will give you a chance to verify that everything works, and that you know how to use it. And it will also point out those things that you forgot to pack.

Look at the Florida State Parks website and if you are flexible with dates, you can probably find something during the week at one of them. Some are more popular than others, but we have not found one yet that we didn't like. Brevard county has Long Point Park, just north of Sebastian Inlet and it's worth a shot.

Look at the Florida state parks, city parks and county parks for some very nice sites. Space may be limited at this time of year.

We were just down at Kathryn Abbey Hannah State Park for a week, COJ.net - Camping at Hanna Park , it was very reasonably priced and there were plenty of sites available.

Most state parks in Florida have 1/3 or more sites non-reservable and available first come basis. So be sure and just call you will likely get a site. Even on busy holiday weekends.

We are on our 7th RV, we have a tradition of always doing our shakedown at Disney Fort Wilderness.

If you want to get shaken down, Disney is a good place to go.

This time of year is a great time to camp at Collier Seminole state park. The entrance is on US 41 east of Naples. Lots of fun things to do and see in the area..... Sightseeing in the glades, kayaking, fishing, etc. It's on the Blackwater River. Good luck.
