I am looking for information on the campgrounds within the park Loft Mountain, Mathews Arm, Lewis Mountain and Big Meadows. We like more rustic sites ( no hook-ups needed ). Has anyone stayed at any of these? We like campgrounds which are less crowded and ones that are close to trails. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you havenot tried it yet, go to www.nps.gov, look at parks and get maps and information on the hiking trails and campgrounds.
Very few NP campgrounds have hookups ( some in the west have electric but this is to eliminate exhaust and noise polution.
Foloks that search out NP campgrounds have, in my opinion, a different outdoor, camping ethic, which is one reason we also prefer them.

Tom N,

Are you sure there's no overnight facilities at Big Meadows???

We camped there three summers ago while on a trip of the Blue Ridge Parkway, this NPS link to
Big Meadows Campground in Shenandoah NP
contains another link to their reservation system which indicates their season this year starts on 10th of May and runs until the 31st of Oct with a $19 rate for a no hookup site (no hookups available).

I thought you meant Sky Meadows State Park near Delaplane, VA. There is no camping there.
