[QUOTE=Medicjt87;4302502]Looking to find a RV Park with ocean view and preferred access over Labor Day weekend. Lived there 30+ years. Was a San Diego Deputy Sheriff. Good luck with this one. If you didn't reserve a year ago, give it up. And as others have said, the congestion, and traffic in every area you seek to stay at, is miserable at best. Hint: Join the Elks. They have 3 lodges in SD and you can travel to the beach from their locations.

Doheny Beach-Dana Point
We love Doheny Beach located in Dana Point. But it can be difficult to get in. It is dry camping, no hook ups. There is a dump station, decent showers & restrooms. If you have bikes there are nice trails. It’s right on the beach with some spots backing up to the sand. Good Luck.

Camping San Diego
If your retired military or Civil Service check out Fidlers Cove on Coronado Island. If your dead set on going by the water the last comment was true. If you don’t mind a drive to the water, a secret spot (probably no more) is admiral baker campground. It’s dead center SD but in a park setting and golf course with a pool! Good luck.

Southern Cali Beach Camping
For CA parks and beach camping you have to reserve 7 months of advance of the first day want to camp there. So if you want to be there on July 15, reserve on-line on Jan 15. If you are already at a campsite
and want to extend your stay, you often can do that by lining up at the check in kiosk around 7:30 a.m. and wait for cancellations. This has worked twice and other people have said they have always gotten a spot. Of course you most likely will need to move from where you are currently camped.

If you are retired military or have a friend that is retired or active military that can sponsor you, Camp Pendleton in Oceanside has about the most awesome beach RV resort there is. At this point in time I'm sure you won't be able to get reservations for Labor day weekend but you may want to consider it in the future.

My goto site is RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks for finding RV camping. We have stayed at San Clemente State Park, which has pull-throughs and hookups, but is usually full. Over Memorial weekend, we stayed at Mission Bay RV Resort. We arrived on Sunday. There were about 8 available sites, but the campground was full of cars and people. It was like driving through a playground. People were nice and helped us get parked (back-in). A day or two later, it was nearly empty. Facilities were okay. The mobile home parks that are around Mission Bay are like ghost towns. The city has stopped leasing the property and are still deciding what to do with it. Mission Bay will stay (earning the city $3M a year), but Campland will go.
We have also stayed at Orangeland in Orange, CA, - great for visiting Disneyland. We also like Eastshore Park in San Dimas, where there is a small lake.
We haven't stayed in the Ventura area.

Looked up California beach Labor Day and this image of Santa Monica Beach came up. I bought an RV so I wouldn’t have to be part of something like this.

I agree it's a very nice state park....very hard to reserve a place on the sand.
Keep checking their website and you might get lucky.
Keep in mind that there is a guy running a website reservation system tied into Reserve California. He gets the spots first since they have a automated computer that hits the sites 1000's of times per day. Kinda unfair to the rest of us, unless you want to pay them the $$ to get you a site.
Good luck!!

Sounds like ticket scalping for the use of facilities that receive taxpayer funding. Maybe when the bullet train is complete the State may have time to address these things.

YUP, you clearly have my KIND of SICK sense of humor. But interestingly the State just gave a press release like last week, that they are aware of the Auto Bot scalpers and have computer people trying to implement a software solution to stop it. GOOD LUCK. I am sure that California doesn't pay enough to get people good enough to stop a well monetized hacker who is out there getting rich off the system.

Since they changed their website, I feel that reservations have been worse. The new site sucks in my opinion.
Takes weeks and many follow up calls to get even a one day refund on early out.
But then it's Calif
