Southwest Florida RV sites
Hello, we are going down to southwest Florida after Christmas. I am booked at he KOA in Pine Island. I am thinking of switching to Pelican Lake Motorcoach in Naples. Anyone with experience in the area?

Pelican Lake is a true resort. I would be surprised if you can find a slot there at this point through.

Plenty of spots open at Pelican Lake in January. Yes, Very nice place.
To the OP, if you go there, stop at Stan's Idle Hour in Goodland on Sunday... fun place.

No idea on Pine Island. It was isolated for several weeks after Hurricane Ian in 2022. The bridge to the island was badly damaged, and many RV parks in the area were closed for as long as a year. A couple longer.
Pictures I saw on the net were that the park was underwater for over 24 hours.
Reviews indicate that as of six months ago (May 2024), half of the park was still closed for repairs, and many facilities were not functioning such as restrooms and showers. RV parking crowded and the park understaffed.
Might have gotten better, but I would be disinclined to reserve a spot there before making a visit to see the conditions.
Park always had a problem with no-see-ums, and mosquitoes. Since Pine Island is sheltered from the Gulf breezes by other islands, and near the RV park is a very large swampy area which to me indicates a high likelyhood of mosquitoes.
I also don't consider Pine Island to have good beaches because the island does not actually have a waterfront on the Gulf. Certainly much worse than nearby Fort Meyers Beach or Sanibel Island.
Now, that's just my opinion. Yours might differ.

We booked into a fairly new place in Cape Coral off Burnt Store Road called Encore Tranquil Lakes for January. They just opened a new section with another 250 or so sites and were running a 50% discount deal trying to fill up. Not sure if deal is still available. This place is about 5 minutes north of the turn to head out to Pine Island. It’s a Thousand Trails affiliate.

Pelican Lake is an awesome resort and in a great location. You are close to Marco Island and Naples. There are plenty of grocery stores, and lots of things to do. The resort is beautiful!

I RV'd at a little RV resort on Matlacha Island called Sugar Sand Beach RV Resort in winter '21 & don't know if they've fared through all these past 2 years..

Good info! The bridge is still an issue, and traffic is a mess with a single lane alternating direction. We spent some time there recently and the park itself (facilities, staffing, etc.) seemed to be in great shape, although it was nearly empty...pretty much had everything to ourselves and we loved it.
Completely agree on the no-see-ums...they were overwhelming, couldn't get away from them even if we hid inside all day. And so many snakes! Also second that vote for beaches pretty much anywhere else nearby.
