We stayed at Southern Gap near Grundy 2 weeks ago. Plenty of space for our 45’ rig. We saw elk every night less than 200 yards from our site. Gets dusty on the weekend with the off road vehicles but we had a great time.

We have a lot at Deer Creek Motorcoach Resort in Galax, about an hour from Grayson Highlands State Park. Cool Breeze Campground is next door. Avoid anything that requires you to drive on rt 58, between Damascas and Independence, with a motorhome. Trucks over 35' are advised not to use it, so park the coach and take the car to Grayson Highlands. I know there is a KOA in Whytheville if you do not want to stray far from I-81.

In Kingsport TN, Not in VA but close. One exit east of the I-26 & I-81 intersection is Warriors Path SP. Very nice, inexpensive and many activities. 1/2 hr to Bristol.
