St Louis to Gatlinburg via 64E to 75S

We have a little time to kill so taking a new to us route instead of going through Nashville (used to live there). Looking for ideas on things to see and or scenic places to camp between Louisville and Knoxville.

Not far from Rocky Top I stayed at Norris Dam East. I dont believe they have lake front sites but it's a state park and pretty laid back. Instsyed overnight on my way to Florida.

Kentucky Horse Park, and adjoining campground. Just a few miles North of the I-65 / I 75 split near Lexington.

Kentucky Horse Park is nice, north of there is a campground at Georgetown
called Whispering Hills.
We have stayed at both and if going to the Horse Park their campground is great. The Horse Park is closed to the I-64 & I-75 split.
Further down I-75 is some other nice places to stop over. London, Ky is not too bad then you have Berea, Ky and Renfor Valley. Berea is a nice place, shops to go to, Renfro Valley has music shows on the weekends.

X2 on the Horse Park CG. We've been there many times and have always enjoyed our stays. The Horse Park is a gem and well worth a visit. There's also a nice, paved bike path across the road to the South from the CG that goes all the way to the outskirts of Lexington (at least that's as far as we've gone). There's also a really nice farm-to-table restaurant in nearby Georgetown called The Local Feed that I'd recommend. They have indoor and outdoor dining, and a great menu to choose from. Happy travels.

If you do the Horse Park you could tour one of many bourbon distilleries on the bourbon trail. Lots of heritage.

Just a couple more thoughts on things to do from the Horse Park. You are certainly within easy driving distance of multiple distilleries using the Horse Park as a home base. Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace are probably two of the closest. I personally liked the tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankford, KY the best, although my choice of bourbon is from Woodford Reserve. The grave of Daniel Boone is also in Frankfort. Frankfort is only a 30-40 minute drive from the Horse Park. Most importantly, though, is the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort that has to be seen and experienced. As it says on the website (https://kyvietnammemorial.net/), "EVERY DAY IS MEMORIAL DAY" at this memorial by use of an enormous sundial. It's an immensely moving memorial. I hope you will let yourself experience and be humbled by it.

I'll just throw this out there as an option:
There is another route to go. If you take I-65 south of Louisville, you can go to Monmouth Cave NP. If you go a little further south, about 26 miles you come to Bowling Green and the Corvette Museum. In Bowling Green there is a small, very nice railroad museum. Plus, on the way to that is a small BBQ place, very, very good.
Bet you would never guess this though:
Camping World Corporate Office & Headquarters
650 Three Springs Road Bowling Green KY 42104

Camping World Corporate Office & Headquarters

When you leave there, you can run the Cumberland Parkway over to I-75 south then into Knoxville. From there I-40 over toward Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg
