St.Parks w/o reservations, how soon to be there to get a site

Some of the State Parks/forests out midwest I've noticed don't take reservations so how soon should you plan to get there to get a site? Looking at getting there on a weekday Tuesday or Wed. (so that should help) so what time is best: 11:00, 12:00 noon, 1:00 what's your experience?

Getting there before a Thursday you stand the best chance of getting the walk-in sites. Doesn't really matter what time as the ranger probably won't let you in the site loops until close to check-in time anyway.

I don't think you will have any problems in Indiana during the week. Monday thru Thursday.

In Ohio they do take reservations for all their parks, but they do leave maybe 10% at each campground that are walk in only. For the most part arriving on a Mon, Tue or Wed is no problem. Even Mohican (Ohio's most popular state park) you might snag one of their 15 "non-reservable" sites on Mon or Tue. Other parks even arriving on Friday you will get a spot. But if you wanted one of the reserved sites at Mohican for the weekend in the summer, you needed to make a reservation at least 3-4 months ago.
