mrsportys-

Another option is Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park, MD. They offer bus to DC and in-park "what to do" seminars," and I believe they are near the Metro. Here's a thread from someone who has stayed there within the past month.

Two years ago, we camp hosted at Greenbriar SP and would drive to the subway station which would drop us of at the National Mall. It was about a 1-1/2 hour trip, but we were able to have campfires and camping experience in the forest CG at night.

If you are military, Ft. Belvoir has an rv camp that you can use. Very convenient to DC and on the southern outskirts of Alexandria.

Regards.

There is a regional park at Bull Run that has CG. Close to public transp into DC and close to Dulles and new Air & Space Mus that is very worthwhile.

Bull Run is pretty nice, but the road in can be narrow and if a car comes the opposite way the trees seem to jump out and hit the RV. Also some sites are significantly out of level. But the location is great for metro access to DC and Udvar-Hazy at Dulles.

Another option that NOVA Parks owns is Pohick Bay Regional Park. I have never been there but it is a reasonable distance to DC, Mt. Vernon, and other touristy places.

Just left Cherry Hill Park last week after staying 18 nights. Great place to stay and the park offers for a fee a 5 hour Bus Night Tour and an 8 hour Bus Day Tour. Both with excellent Tour Guides. Using our Smartrip Pass we made 13 trips into DC on the MetroRail. Easy 10 minute trip from the park to the MetroRail Parking Garage and 30 minutes on a very clean and safe train puts you only a couple blocks from the National Mall. Cost was $2.05 each way for the rail and $5.20 for the Garage. Very nice people and a very nice Park.Click image for larger version

Might be a bit south of where you may want to be but the folks are wonderful and its pretty quiet. Besides they have a craft brewery on site. Aquia Pines Camp Resort - Brewery

Oh, and the metro is not far north at Franconia/Springfield.

Everyone tell how Cherry Hill is top notch. But... how is the traffic getting there?

It’s D.C. Traffic sucks everywhere, everyday for a good chunk of the day!

Easy as pie. Take the Route 1 exit off the Beltway (I-495) and go south (inside the Beltway) for one block. Turn right onto Cherry Hill Road and go no more than 1/2 mile, you will see the park on the left. Be careful, right at the entrance to the park, there is a pothole the size of Rhode Island....

Regards.
