"Texas Gulf Coast/Gator UTV Use"

Hi All,

My wife and I are thinking about snow-birding to the Texas Gulf Coast this Winter.

I love to surf-fish, and would like to find a CG close to the beach, as my wife and I are both handicapped and use a JD Gator UTV for mobility both in a CG, and the beach. The Gator is our toad behind a class A Southwind.

Would anyone have any suggestions?

Port Aransas

I would recommend you search the area around Port Aransas. There are campgrounds near the beach that should be accessible with your Gator. And still within or near town so that you do not have to crank up the big rig to make a grocery run. Far enough south to enjoy the lack of snow for the winter. Happy trails.

Howdy!

Port Aransas does not permit any use of ATV's on the road way, beaches or dumes. They do permit Golf Carts and you have to purchase a golf cart tag to drive them in town on the road way and beach. I know this as I asked a local LEO last year while at Port A durning Sand Fest and I asked it it was ok to drive our Yamaha Rhino on the beach and we where licensed in Arizona. He stated "NO" that the beach in that area is a state HWY and requires vehicles to be state licensed. He stated that the City would not even permit them to use ATV's on the beach area. But look out for all the golf carts, they rent a lot of them there also.

Tom, you might google Galvestn RV parks. Through there last week. There is a park on the beach. May be a state park. this on the east end of isle. On the west end is another park or two. Would have to contact them for UTV access. On the Bolivar penninsula there are several there and good fishing.

Padre Island National Seashore

You might contact Padre Island National Seashore (361-949-8068). That is number for Malaquite Visitor Center. Out of Corpus Christi. Explain your situation and maybe there is some accommodation that will work. Best of luck. Hope the fishing is good.

Thanks, Ron & Fletch460.... I would assume that one of the reasons for not allowing your own UTV/ATV on the beach, or local roads, is that it would cut into the rentals of the local golf cart trade.....
