The Great Outdoors RV Resort

My wife and I spent 3 days at TGO last week and wanted to let people know how nice it was. First the bad. No pull throughs and some of the spaces were not hugely wide based on the way they were angled. Now to the good...

The place is awesome. Tennis courts, golf course, 2 restaurants (a diner and a country club restaurant) with great food, a bank, post office, RV sales center and repair shop. Golf cart rentals for all the activities and a dog walking path as well as a dog park complete with agility activities for them.

The people that were there were amazing to speak with and welcomed us in as regulars. All spaces are paved with full hookups including cable. On the other side of the place are these incredible homes that have RV garages and we spent half the time riding around in the golf cart looking at all these amazing pushers that were owned. Truly a sight to see.

We are already looking to go back in the next few months for a couple of weeks we had so much fun and if you are in the Titusville area (near Orlando), its worth a look if you like the active kind of grounds. We will get more in the Campground review section soon.

We had family that lived at TGO for many years. They would pull out of TGO to take their trips many of which were Alaska destined. I thought that TGO is also a very nice place. Many are emulating TGO, check out Lake Ashton for example or Mount Olive Shores North to get a broader perspective.

Hi TheTourVan,
I was there a couple of years ago. I agree with your comments. I would like to a an addition "bad" comment. The owners are so proud of TGO they have kept the lot prices at pre depression pricing. They are too proud. I buy and sell luxury RV lots. I decided not to be involved at TGO. Like mentioned by DriVer, there are plenty of places offering the same thing (and newer) for realistic $s.

Thanks Gary. We did not have too many issues with the pricing due to their coupon (which seems to run all the time). 3 nights for $110 is pretty reasonable in my opinion for the amenities.

It's one of our favorites too. We spent a week or so there in 2010 while in town to watch the launch of STS131. What a sight. We travel with three dogs so the path and park were big pluses for us.

Hi TheTourVan,
My pricing concern is with the price of lots for sale, not the rental fees. I am an investor. My due diligence on TGO finds nothing to be concerned about. However, based on what current owners want for their properties, there is no room for an investor to make a profit turning around properties.

I can understand that. Not sure that is the fault of the property or a "con" on the resort as mentioned above, but that is just my opinion. Frankly, they are only trying to do the same thing you are, which is make a profit. Asking someone to sell lower only to be able to buy and sell higher should not really have much to do with a campground review. Again, all just my opinion.

Hi jimmyjnr,
Different areas of the country define luxury in their own way. It has been 3 years since I was looking for investments in Colorado. Things can change, but contact these resorts to see if they are selling lots and what their facility is like.

Foot of the Rockies RV Resort & Storage
Mountain Views At RiversEdge RV Resort & Park - Creede, Colorado
Wolf Creek Run Motor Coach River Park - Home Page I know they are selling lots.
Desert Gardens - Arizona RV lot for sale - co-operative RV lot ownership at this 55 plus AZ RV Resort I know they are selling lots.

There are more, these are the only ones I kept in my log. The others must not have been anything to remember.

I can throw out two.

Seven Feathers is a wonderful park at the casino of the same name. Beautiful and very reasonable. They are on Interstate 5 in Canyonville.

Outdoor Resorts Pacific Shores in Newport. Very pricey but wonderful, developed sites facing the ocean. It's nice to watch through your windshield as the sun sets behind the lighthouse.

I agree with Pacific Shores being Wonderful but not the very pricey part, this entire year the pricing has been reduced to $30 to $70 a night depending on type of lot. I don't know where you can get this type of resort for $30 a night.

I actually remember recently hearing that they had cut prices when they had financial issues and at those prices it is a bargain. One of my favorite travel pictures was taken there... out the windshield of the coach... glass of wine on the dash... and the sun setting behind the lighthouse.
