Things to do and see in Idaho & Montana

We are spending the summer in central and northern Idaho and western Montana; plus a motorcycle ride to Jasper, AB. I'm currently making a list of things to do and see, and thought I should ask people on the IRV2 website for suggestions.

So in your opinion what should be on our list of things to do and see this summer? Thanks for your help!

On the way to see the Canadian Rockies, might as well take in Glacier National Park. We rode(Harley) from Pennsylvania in 08' Yellowstone, Joseph highway to the Bear tooth pass, Glacier N.P. , We stayed at the lodge at the Columbia Ice Field Columbia Icefield Tours & Glacier Adventure - Glacier Tours on the Columbia Icefield Canadian Rockies

And needless to say we were the only motorcycle in the parking lot......

Redfish Lake below Stanley is a beautiful place!
As is McCall and the Cour de laine area.

We live near St. Maries, the St. Joe river is really nice during the summer and there are a lot of places to park for free (BLM, no services) or campgrounds (lots of services). Anywhere near Lake Coeur d' Alene (CDA), or north of CDA is nice. We'll be exploring the same area this summer in our new motor home as well.

Damon and David...Thank you for the input and congratulations on the new motor home! Follow-up question if you don't mind: Regarding the "St. Joe River Scenic Byway", do you know what the road surface is on Forest Rd 50, and Red Ives Rd 218; and its current condition? We will be riding a motorcycle, (our "dingy"), for our touring.

Terry & Alice...Thanks for the comments regarding Redfish Lake. It's on our list and we are thinking about staying a few nights at the Redfish Lake Lodge.

Afubar...Located Murray, ID on the map. It's on our list, but the map doesn't indicate that there is much there. Is the attraction the scenery?

If you are into old cars stop and see the old prison at Deer Lodge Mt not only do you
get to see what the prison was way back but the car collection is out standing.

Hey, Palehorse89...Thanks for your comments. Glacier NP is on our list; wouldn't want to miss it! Also, on the list is Beartooth Hwy, Going to the Sun Road, Chief Joseph Hwy, and the Columbia Ice Field. Many years ago we visited Banff and Jasper National Parks. This is our opportunity to re-visit the area, but on a motorcycle this time. Hope the weather cooperates!

The Spragpole Museum-Bar-Cafe is a must see. Good food and the back portion has lots of historical items relating to gold and silver mining and everyday life. There is also a hand carved log chain in the bar/cafe area that is a wonder.

The Bedroom Gold mine is good, the entrance to the mine is in a bedroom closet.

Also check out the Molly b'Damn story. Much more and the location is beautiful.

You might also like Kellogg and Wallace Idaho as well.

I had to ask my cousin those questions and will get back to you shortly. I know the St. Joe Byway is paved and easy to drive as long as the logging trucks don't bother you (they drive like they own the road). The road is open up to Avery but closed after that until there is no more snow. Beautiful drive.
