Travel with family and kids

In a few weeks we will embark on a new adventure. We are taking our son and two grandchildren (ages 6 and 2) on an eleven day trip to Wisconsin. We have a 2003 Fleetwood Expedition 35'. I'm very excited about this but also a bit worried. That's a lot of people in a small area. Also I really want this to be an exciting and very memorable trip for them. I've planned short drive days (no more than 250 miles) and all stops will have a pool. My question is:. Has anyone else tried this and do you have any "do's and don'ts" to share?*

It’ll be fine.

Napping the two year old is a good idea. And telling the youngest what to expect and what’s happening each day goes a long way to easing any possible anxiety.

Sounds like a great trip to me.

We nap our baby (now a tad over 13 months) in the darkened bedroom twice a day. We also bed time in the bedroom, then move her when we want to go to bed ( yes, we have two pack and plays .. one lives in the bedroom closet, and the other downstairs. We set them up as needed. )

rotate toys.

You might also consider an inexpensive sound machine that has white noise, it does wonders! Try not to over-tire the kids and let them vent when needed.

Consider taking a few pieces of flexible baby / dog gate. Kids loves buttons, and you might want to block off the captains chair..

I bet you all have a wonderful time!

We carry two pieces of something similar to this

It’s not this one, but it’s similar and the pieces can be disconnected from each other. So we carry two pieces and use as needed.

Worth its weight in gold... we use the white noise setting, on full blast even, and it really does wonders masking noises from the rest of the rig. We use this at home too 100% of sleep times.

We've done this many, many times with our son, DIL, & GS. One trip was for 3 weeks. We've absolutely loved it and will do it again this summer for 4 days. We only have 1 bathroom and never had a bathroom or hot water issue. It just works if everyone wants to be there. I think a time or two the son used the campground facilities for showers, but not always.

Your idea of short driving days and having a pool (and possibly a playground) is excellent. Of course having things for them to do while driving is a help....books, games, movies, etc.

You can do this. It'll be a blast and will make tons of memories. Enjoy!!!!
