I have never stayed in the state park, but have been in it and to the area several times. It gets very crowded in the summer, as you might expect from its location. It is also on a VERY busy street, sometimes tough to get in and out. The beach and surrounding area is great. If you go, try Mabel's (just down the road) for breakfast, great cinnamon rols.

I stayed there a couple of years ago. Since I wasn't interested in the beach in October I can't comment there but I do know the road gets busy. The sites closest to the highway would be the noisiest.
