Trip out west from northern Va

Leaving from north west Virginia in August. Going to Cleveland for 2 days . After that going to Detroit, then to Rv museum for 1-2 days. After that , would like ideas from fellow Rvers. We do wanna go to the Corn Palace. Which would be best, I80 or I90? Need ideas. will wind up in Rapid City for a week. Let know….

Sounds like fun. I would take I 80 stays farther outside of Chicago. You can turn back North later and catch 90 if you want.

I would stay south of Chicago by taking I-70, then heading up I-74 into Iowa, then onto I-80, then either I-380, I-35 or I-29 up to I-90.

Then you completely avoid Chicago and all it's traffic issues, plus all the 80/90 tolls through Indiana and Illinois.

Beware of strong headwinds heading west on I-90 across South Dakota. I did that stretch two years ago in a Toyota Camry and had a hard time making headway. All the TTs/5ers I passed were were going well below the speed limit.

We were in Rapid City area for the Memorial Day Week.
The Corn Palace is in Mitchell, SD., which is right off of I-90. While there, June 1st to 4th, we stayed at Bett's Campground. Nice park, pool, the staff kept the grounds really cleaned. Showers were nice and clean. It is a small campground, while we were there there were also a couple of big rigs in addition to us.

Home

If you stay on I-90 there was another place we stopped for a couple of nights. It is in Welcome, Mn. a nice little campground, great stop over spot for 1 night. Then a short 180-200 mile trip to the Corn Palace area.
