Anyone with recent experience at Tucson RV Resorts: Winterhaven (Tucson Meadows), Voyager, Mission View, Western Ways, Rincon West or Tucson Lazy Days KOA?

Hope to go for a month and use the Park as a base for exploration in the greater Tucson area.

Looks like most have lots of resort activities and sites on gravel. Although we don't have a have Big rig, we have a 32 ft Class C and would like a site that is more than 22 ft. wide so as to have some level of privacy.

Will take our mountain bikes and toad.

I lived in Tucson in a RV for several years. I preferred the Lazy Days KOA. Rincon west was good but the traffic in and out of there was not good-- Voyager tends to have more Park Model trailers than RV spots and the RV spots were gravel. Lazy Days KOA also put up solar panels up, why is that important because they are directly above some of the RV spaces - in the summer time that would provide some relief (shade) from the heat and improve the RV cooling in the summer. Also it is easy access to the highways.

We have stayed at Voyager and Lazy Days KOA, a lot depends on what you are looking for at the campground. Voyager has a on site restaurant, also a nice dog walk if you have 4 legged kids. Lazy Days KOA has wide concrete pads and nice dog park. If you have military ID Davis Monthan has a real nice RV park.

We stay at Justins Diamond J for the winter. April 1st the snowbirds head for home and there are lots of empty spaces then. Not much on amenities but a lot of biking and hiking trails. It is a bit out of town so it is a quiet place. Most spaces are 40 ft wide.
Gilbert Ray Campground is also a quiet park. Near Old Tucson Movie Studio and Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.

We like the KOA. Paved roads, sites not paved but there is a concrete patio at each site. Easy access to i-10. Great access to paved bike paths from the park. Good mountain biking in the area. Good BBQ restaurant on site.

Thanks jake 21, caninecop and cat for your response to my post regarding Tucson area RV Parks. I like the bigger sizes and trees at Lazy Daze but on RVParkReviews several folks indicated the area surrounding the park was trashy, razor wire around the walls and noise, noise noise from the air base, Since you all have stayed there would you mind commenting on these concerns. Thanks again

None of the things you mention bothered us at the KOA. We plan to go back.

We didn't see any of the problems that you asked about. There was a fence around the whole park, that was there when it was a RV dealer and service area. You are going to hear noise from DM air base. The campground is on the South side of I-10 so the noise is not that bad, at least it didn't bother us or keep us awake at night. According to the news DM may be getting a new type of Fighter Air Craft that is supposed to be real loud. When my wife gets the bug to do some shopping in the big city our choices are 1.DM campground 2. Voyager 3. Lazy Daze.

I don’t recall noticing any noise. The area is fine. It ain’t Beverly Hills but we never had an issue.

There is some air base noise, but not the same frequency of take off and landings as at a civilian airport. Neighbor was not the a high end luxury neighborhood for sure but it isn't a dump or ghetto either. Or the several years we stayed there we had no problems. KOA did have a gate attendant so only residents could come in. Rincon West is in similar neighborhood and it is under one of the flight patterns for the Tucson International airport. All in all we enjoyed our stays at the KOA, it's been 3 years since we stayed there. Have fun, safe travels

If you want activities, Voyager is the place to go and it's not near the interstate.

We are "regulars" to Tucson, passing through often as we live in the SW.
I offer a hearty 2nd to thumbs-up for LazyDays Tucson.
The area outside and around LazyDays KOA may appear a little weather-worn to some, but it is not considered to be an unsafe area of town by any means (and unsafe areas do exist in Tucson like most everywhere else).

A suggested alternative to consider is the Pima County Fairgrounds. Not nearly as nice, and not nearly as 'groomed' as LazyDays, but very comfortable and all utilities are excellent. The Fairground is more typical of a lot of southwestern RV parks with no paving etc., but the location is remote and has a desert feel yet there are lots of trees and grass. It likely would cost a whole lot less for a month stay.

We stay at both the fairground and LazyDays KOA - depending on mood more than anything else. 2 different experiences, but you might at least want to consider the Fairgrounds. Just my .02

If you consider the fairgrounds be sure to check if anything is going on at that time. I believe the Escapees RV Club will be holding their rally there in spring.
