UP/Lake Superior Summer 2021 Great Lakes Circle Tour

My wife and I are planning a stay in the Great Lakes area and are looking for routes and campgrounds as we move through. The plan is to end up in Door County, Wisconsin on August 15, 2021 before a trip down the Mississippi River. The last time we were up there we spent some time in Traverse, City Michigan and north. We will probably start there around late June. Any ideas and feedback would be welcome.

I found a great thread from back in 2019: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f38/uppe...ip-431850.html

I wonder what has changed post pandemic.

Three places we stayed that we enjoyed on our Great Lakes tour a couple of years ago. First was the Frankfort/Crystal Lake RV Resort which is fairly close to Sleeping Bear Dunes. The second is Mackinaw Mill Creek outside of Mackinaw City. The third is Jack Pine Lodge on the UP about half way between Manistique and Munising. That's within driving distance of Pictured Rocks Seashore, Tahquemenon Falls and other attractions. Jack Pine is in the national forest in the middle of nowhere but it's a nice place to base from.

We did the northern part of the great circle a few years back, it was a great trip. We started in Thunder bay staying at the Fort William Historical park. We spent a few days checking the park (great place for history) also a short distance to Kakabeka Falls another great place. https://www.ontarioparks.com/park/kakabekafalls

From there we traveled east to Wawa for an overnight stayed at a great little park https://www.campinginontario.ca/Wawa...tAndCampground

Heading east to Nigeria falls. Just a word of warning from Wawa to Niagara Fall there are NO gas stations, fill up on either end.

As for door county my favorite spot is Hyland court RV park https://www.hylandcourt.com/ Its easy to spend 4 or 5 days in door county. If you like smoked fish get it from the shop at Gills Rock. And do not forget the famous door county "fish boil"

Good Luck safe travels

We stayed at the Soo Locks campground in Sault St Marie Michigan. No frills campground water electric sites and dump station. View of the freighters traveling through locks was amazing. Lots to do in the local area including the Soo locks and boat tour through locks. There is a museum freighter ship to tour. We did a day trip to Taquanaman Falls State Park and Whitefish Point. All were nice areas and we enjoyed the trip.
