Just finished that trip. There is a city park on the Michigan Wisconsin border called curry city park. 10 bucks for a stay with 30 amp. Nice bathrooms and a dump station. It is on us 2

Can't help with the campgrounds, but no trip to the UP is complete without seeing the Porcupine Mountains. In White Pine, east side of the Porcupines there is a restaurant called the Konteka, great food, interesting place, but the coolest thing is the back half of the restaurant is large windows. They put scraps and food out back for the Black Bears. In the evening have dinner and watch for, and if you are just a little lucky see black bear.

Copper Harbor is great and make sure and see the Kitch-iti-Kipi, Big Spring near Manistique.

Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a great place with a ton of things to see.

You have me giggling with the snow talk. I'm in northeastern Ontario and we may see flurries before Halloween but we don't see serious snow till November/December. Have a great trip. Headed out this week ourselves on our annual fall Ontario wandering.

If you stay at Munising tourist park campground is on Lake Superior near pictured rocks. You can take a boat tour out to see them. South of Munising is a historical iron town called Fayette . Been a couple years but I think it’s like an hour or less from the campground.

Done the whole area...western Michigan has a hidden gem called Fish Town.

Fishtown : Leland

Lots of good stuff to check out.
x2 on Fishtown in Leland. We were just there while staying in Empire MI at indigo Bluffs RV Resort. Right next to Sleeping Bear Dunes as well.

UP

DO NOT MISS Mackinaw Island! Quaint hotel on top of the hill. Many fudge shops right near the pier. Fudge made while you watch! People that ride in on the ferries are called "fudgies”... No motor vehicles-only horse-drawn carriages! Or bikes to rent.
Thanks, Doug!

So. How did everybody’s Yoopers UP trip turn out?
I almost talked myself into going another direction. What a mistake that would have been. The UP is amazing! The roads and lack of traffic are very good.
We started at Porcupine Mountains, Cooper Harbor, Hiawatha National Forest, Muskallone Lake, St. Ignace and then we hit heavy traffic and bad roads after crossing the bridge. Sleeping Bear Dunes was a pleasant surprise though.
Thanks Michigan, you are a campers paradise!

This time of year the drive from Cross Village to Harbor Springs, HWY 119 is called the tunnel of trees. A popular color tour drive. Legs Inn in Cross Village is a good place to start/finish with a full menu of authentic polish food. http://www.legsinn.com/menu/
Another adventure is the Agawa Canyon train ride which begins in Soo, Canada and runs 114 miles North into the wilderness and back. The color tours are almost over, but the snow train schedule is next! For a true adventure, you can debark the train along the way and camp/hike/snowshoe for a couple of days and catch another days return train.
