One more UT camping area. We really enjoyed the BLM campground, Kens Lake, while in Moab. Incredibly large spaces and quiet. Moab itself is pretty rambunctious.

I didn't realize all the BLM's around Moab.

We must be some of the few lucky ones in that respect. Mine likes scuba diving, whitewater rafting, drag boat racing, but hates crowds, shopping, and likes minimal jewelry.

I think I prospected for more gold up in Alaska last summer than my DW has in Jewelry ...

Willow Wind RV park in Hurricane UT was definitely the nicest park we stayed at during our month long trip around the US last year. BY FAR. Their bathrooms were nicer than mine at home!
And the people were amazing! We arrived last year at the start of a very scary extreme heat warning. The temps were supposed to be well into the 100's with lows about 100. YIKES. We were having A/C issues and we have a severely handicapped daughter. So were were terrified about being in such heat considering we are northerners and definitely NOT used to that heat. We planned to stay about 5 nights but the RV park gladly let us modify it to 2 nights and we hightailed it up north as soon as we could.

I checked out their website and it looks very nice. One question, their rates are for two people and $10 extra per person. I find that kind of high. I had responded to your VT. thread and notice you have kids, did they charge you a extra $20 -30 a night for the kids?

You know I have no idea! I kept track of everything from that trip but it is in my RV journal in the RV which is in underground storage right now! Although I don't recall it being that expensive as compared to some others. I found the KOAs were the priciest and they were also the ones I liked the least.

I have not stayed at a KOA in 30 years. Some of the other private RV parks that others have mentioned in this thread were a little more than I would pay here in the Midwest but not overly costly. We plan a mix of BLM, National and private campgrounds.

I would stay clear of the KOA in Moab. The most un-level RV park I have ever seen for big rigs. My front tires were 3 inches off the ground. Very congested entry point, someone coming in, nobody goes out. Very dusty, but that is Moab for the most part. Everything is just dirt, no patio at all. Hard to keep it out of the coach.
Wi-Fi was denied after 4 days of our week stay. I guess I had used up my allotment of emails. Have never seen that before. Office wasn't interested in the problem. I know the difference between too many users and/or not enough bandwidth - They just denied service.
Lots of better choices, Portal being the best as mentioned before, but almost anywhere else would be a step up.

Yes, I agree to move Park to park area. But in the west there is so much BLM or USFS land available to dry camp or some with hookups. It is amazing landscape and to spend the evening under the stars and wake to wilderness will forever change your thought of campgrounds.

As a Utahn, I can tell you that your proposed timing is perfect. Anything later is hot as hell until late September. However, with all of our BLM land why not boondock it? (As a point of reference, I friggin' hate campgrounds.) Aside from the area around Moab, where dispersed camping on BLM land is prohibited, why not get out some topo maps and Google Earth and make your own campsite? Near Moab, where dispersed camping on BLM land is prohibited I highly recommend the BLM Big Bend campground along the Colorado River east of town. It's primitive camping, though -- no hookups.
And BTW, IMO some of the best we have to offer is actually OUTSIDE of the National Parks to avoid people and enjoy the same topography and views. Google "San Rafael Swell," for example.
This was our weekend there ending yesterday: http://www.irv2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337029 . We're new to the RV world but we've been camping in the Swell for years. If you have any specific questons, fire away.
