Vancouver Island trip

Sorry if this shows up twice - I thought I posted it, but I can't find it.
I'm going to be doing the Swiftsure Yacht race Memorial day weekend. Being that we are retired and full timers, we thought it might be fun to spend a few weeks on the Island. We have spent time on the Island before, but not RV. Is there going to a size issue with a 40' coach + toad? We need to find a park close to Victoria Memorial day weekend and the rest of the time is open. We are don't need to have hookups. Any good suggestions an places to stay or avoid.

Washington State Ferries , usually run a mid week deal for RV fares to Vancouver Island, and they're even better if you're able to disconnect the toad and have it driven on separately . I'm sure reservations are required.

Most of the larger RV parks on Vancouver Island advertise there .

I've passed the Fort Victoria RV park many times but never stayed there, I think it would be the closest to the downtown area.

I have stayed at the FT Victoria campground several times, with a 24' class A, a van, and with bicycles. It's convenient, not too fancy, but clean.

Your biggest challenge will be the cost of the ferry. As indicated, disconnecting the toad can save you money. Our friends that live on Orcas Island do that. If you are right at 40', you may have to remove the tow bars because that is where the price jump is. Our friends remove theirs on their 30' because the toll folks can be really picky, especially when they are busy.

Also, you will need reservations.

I would also compare costs for the BC ferries and the Black Ball Line out of Port Angeles. Either can accommodate your rig.
